Later in the season we begin
to introduce our koi carp, sourced for colour and appearance
from numerous
places worldwide. Our selection of pond fish increases
diversity over the season and often includes “native” British
species such as tench, carp, minnows and even sticklebacks.
We hold DEFRA licenses for the holding and sale of grass
carp, sturgeon and other non-indigenous freshwater pond
fish species. As a hobbyist you do not need to hold a
license for non-indigenous pond fish species such as
the aforementioned unless you are intending to stock
them into a system such as one with an outlet to a river
or stream.
Pond fish are stocked at Cheshire Waterlife usually
until mid-September. We can offer advice on how to feed
your pond fish as their requirements will change as the
seasons progress. We can offer advice on housing them
too with a range of filters, pumps and liners/ponds in
stock plus the ability to consult and supply on much
larger projects. We have designed a number of systems
over 200,000 litres volume either as natural or dedicated
koi ponds.
We source a range of locally grown water lilies every
year in a variety of “spreads” and flower
colours. Marginal plants are also from the UK and our
selection represents a good selection of what’s
available for the natural pond. During the spring and
summer our selection reflects what’s looking good
at that particular time and the 1 litre pots mean that
repotting isn’t necessary in the first year as
they allow ample growth.
