One of the less colourful members
of the genus the black pearlscale still has
much to offer marine aquarists. It is hardy,
usually feeds readily and is relatively inexpensive.
Although
it is not always
available the lack
of specimens in shops
is often more to
do with
the abundance of
other more colourful
species to choose
from rather than
lack of specimens
at wholesalers.
However,
as a first species
of butterflyfish
there are few better
than this
for a fish only
or live rock based
fish only system
and the markings,
although subtle,
are
highly attractive
under good lighting.
