The beautiful damselfish is an
occasional import from the far east but provided
that specimens are well settled prior to purchase
they prove to be little trouble in the aquarium
context being apparently less territorial than
many of their ilk.
Ensure
specimens are feeding
before purchase (ours
will be) and check
for
signs that individuals
have been allowed
to settle for a week
or two after importation
as
they seem rather
prone to the protozoan
parasite Brooklynella.
Specimens
are usually purchased
singly and added
to established
aquaria
rather than as
first additions -
their
relatively high
price in damselfish
terms see to that-
which is fine as
this is often the
best way to add
potentially territorial
species- as the
last fish in the
system.
