The Sohal or Arabian Surgeonfish
is a beautiful member of the genus Acanthurus
but it is one of the most territorial species
as it grows. Aquarists looking to maintain this
species in the home aquarium should provide
plenty of swimming space, access to dried algae
and robust tankmates.
This species occupies very shallow
water on reefs in the Red Sea and surrounding
area and will defend their "patch"
of algae against allcomers no matter their size.
This behaviour can make them problematic in
confined spaces.
Since the Red Sea collection points
have become limited over recent years the price
of thios species has increased but they are
still available to those who want them- and
many people do.
