This exquisitely coloured fish
hails from the Red Sea where it is found in
high densitities in coral rich areas. The fact
that their natural territories may be very small
contributes to the general consensus that these
are wonderful fish even for more modestly proportioned
systems, where it will potentially thrive and
breed.
Another
feature in their
favour is the appearance
of captive bred specimens
in the
trade, these might
appear pale to begin
with but they become
virtually indistinguishable
from their wild collected
counterparts once
settle into a live
rock based system.
Easy to
feed and care for
they should not be
confused with the
far more aggressive
strawbery dottyback
(Pseudochromis
porphyreus)
