Our tropical
fish stocks are derived from a number of different sources.
For the
best in captive bred freshwater fish we use suppliers
in the Czech Republic, they produce some of the best,
hardiest cardinal tetras we can find anywhere and we
try to have good stocks of this species permanently available.
Similarly they have some excellent killifish - we always
have a
species or two of their Aphyosemion species,
beautiful and ideally suited to even modestly proportioned
community
systems.
The angelfish from the Czech Republic are
also excellent and we regularly have juvenile Altums
for sale
at very
reasonable prices. As tropical freshwater fish go these
are great!
One of the key issues with our tropical freshwater fish
system is that all aquaria are kept in the same range
of conditions. This means that a pH of seven is held
for hardwater and softwater fish alike. Because aquarists
like to mix guppies and tetras we see little point in
maintaining very different water parameters for each
despite naturally many tetra species preferring acidic
waters and many livebearers more alkaline. Through the
careful selection of our livestock and similarly
diligent acclimation to our aquarium conditions we are
able
to offer customers very hardy, resilient specimens
of all
species stocked.
Very occasionally we might stock fish species that
require very strict water conditions in which case
we have the facility to isolate an aquarium from
the system and customers will be informed of this
fact.
Livebearers can be sourced from the Czech Republic too,
they do a wonderful line of Endler’s guppies for
instance, and nice hifin swordtails - but the best specimens
in
our opinion are currently coming from Sri Lanka. We bring
these tropical freshwater fish into slightly saline water
and then acclimatize them to a pH of seven over a period
of several days making them amongst the hardiest livebearers
around.
We only have to say one word about our tropical aquarium plants - Tropica.
This Danish company is renowned worldwide for the quality of their plants,
all grown from cuttings and supplied with information concerning their aquarium
requirements. We like to keep a range of them in stock but if we don’t
have what you are looking for then we can try to get it for you.
We stock
a small range of plants on bogwood and stone and are happy to source more
of these for you too.
